The Holi Festival is traditionally a Hindu festival celebrating
the end of winter. The welcoming of spring with its abundance of colour, prospects
of fertile soil and a good harvest. Holi Festival is celebrated by many
religions primarily in India and Nepal. However these days Holi is celebrated by
many religions throughout the world, people joining together to celebrate
colour, friendship and harmony.
Saturday 5th April a very wet start to the
weekend’s festivities. A group gather in Sydney’s Martin Place where a
procession of festival goers proceeded to pulling a Chariot to Darling Harbour’s
Tumbalong Park. Singing and dancing through the streets of Sydney’s CBD rain
did not dampen their spirits in the slightest.

The following day the weather was bright and sunny and a
larger turnout, the day was full of cultural performances, music, dancers and India
cuisine.
The colour throwing
is one of the highlights of the festival. How often are you allowed to throw
stuff at your parents and not get in trouble? Today is the day were friends and
families join together and throwing a rainbow of coloured powder at each other.
